Canon Wycliffe Makky Twinomujuni Retires After 37 Years of Service, Celebrates 60th Birthday.
Rukungiri: The former head teacher in Rukungiri District Canon Wycliffe Makky Twinomujuni, has officially retired from civil service as he also celebrates his 60th birthday.
A thanksgiving ceremony for his retirement and birthday was held on October 9, 2024 at his home in Kakirago Cell, Bugangari Parish, Bugangari Sub county Rukungiri District. The event began with a church service led by Emeritus Bishop Patrick Tugume, the former Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese.
In his speech, Canon Twinomujuni thanked God for guiding him throughout his career. He advised fellow head teachers to exercise patience, acknowledging the many challenges they face, including community criticism. However, he emphasized that with patience and focus, they can successfully lead their schools toward development. He also encouraged the younger generation to avoid greed and work hard with patience, stressing that success comes to those who persevere. Additionally, Canon Twinomujuni requested the Church of Uganda to grant him an opportunity to spread the Gospel and train Christians on overcoming poverty.
A retired Archdeacon and Chairperson of the Board of Governors at Kashenyi Secondary School Geoffrey Mutabazi, praised Canon Makky Twinomujuni for his dedication to the development of both the school and the community. He highlighted Makky’s transparency and integrity, noting that even in retirement, Makky invited auditors to review his tenure at the school, a rare practice among retirees.
The Rukungiri LC V Chairperson Geoffrey Kyomukama urged the public to take inspiration from Canon Makky’s example in their own actions, while the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Rukungiri, Steven Nsubuga Bewayo, commended Makky for being a mentor to others, working hard, and loyally serving the government.
The Member of Parliament for Rukungiri Municipality Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa encouraged head teachers to foster closer relationships with their staff, explaining that a head teacher who acts like a boss creates fear, which can lead to division. He praised Canon Makky for being approachable and supportive, likening him to a friend and parent to his staff, which contributed to his success.
Canon Wycliffe Makky Twinomujuni served as a headteacher in three schools: Bugangari, Bwambara, and Kashenyi Secondary Schools, all in Rukungiri District. His career spanned 37 years, and he is now 60 years old. He is married to Hope Twinomujuni, and they are blessed with four children, three girls and one boy.
Tusigwire Francis has been appointed caretaker headteacher at Kashenyi Secondary School following Canon Makky’s retirement.
