Buyanja Woman Murdered, Suspectedly Raped After Selling Daughter’s Land

Rukungiri: Tragedy struck Kizinga A, Kyamakanda Ward in Buyanja Sub-county, Rukungiri District, after a 50-year-old woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances.

The deceased, identified as Evalyne Mbabazi, a wife to Robert Muramuzi White, reportedly disappeared on Sunday evening at around 8:00 PM. Her lifeless body was discovered the following morning June 23, by Nkohe Justus, who was heading to his garden and found her lying near a road known as White Close, also referred to locally as White Road.

Speaking at the scene, Buyanja Sub-county Gomborora Internal Security Officer (GISO) Isaac Bitwire said initial investigations point to a suspected murder, possibly linked to money the deceased had after allegedly selling land belonging to her daughter who currently lives abroad.

The body was later taken to Rwakabengo Health Centre III for a postmortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death. Authorities also suspect that the crime might have involved sexual violence, although police investigations are still ongoing.

One suspect has so far been detained at Buyanja Police Station to aid in investigations.

By press time, Police had not yet released an official statement on the incident.
