Buyanja Myroots Donates ICT Equipment Worth UGX 35 Million to 24 Schools
Rukungiri: A total of 24 schools in Buyanja Sub-county and Buyanja Town Council, including 21 government-aided and 3 community-supported institutions, have each received a full set of a desktop computer and printer. The donation, valued at UGX 35 million, was made by Buyanja Myroots (BMR), an association composed of individuals originally from the greater Buyanja area.
The official handover ceremony took place on August 7, at Buyanja Town Council headquarters. The event was attended by Rukungiri District local government officials, school head teachers, and members of Buyanja Myroots. The equipment was officially handed over through the office of the Rukungiri Chief Administrative Officer.
The Chief Mobilizer and Pillar Head of Buyanja Myroots Dr. Adrian Beinebyaabo Bwankwindi, said the association, which was established in 2017, now has over 3,000 members and operates under 13 development pillars, one of which is the Give Back initiative.

He highlighted past support to Kasheshe and Buyanja Health Centres and emphasized their current focus on improving education through ICT, including the provision of 20 scholarships.
He noted that the association also plans to support the urbanization of trading centres and complement local government development efforts. However, he expressed concern about the lack of electricity in some of the schools that received computers.

The Buyanja Myroots Chairperson, Allan Mutemba Asinguza, outlined the association’s development pillars, which include investment, education, health, agribusiness, and infrastructure. He called on schools to ensure the security of the donated computers by employing watchmen.
Senior Education Officer Anxious Ganshanga, who represented the Rukungiri District Education Officer at the event, confirmed that the 21 government-aided schools in Buyanja are not yet connected to electricity. He urged the district leadership to prioritize this issue and advised head teachers to embrace ICT by learning to use the computers and ensuring they are put to good use.

Rukungiri Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, Agaba Hillary, who officiated the event, encouraged people from other parts of the country to support the development of their home areas, just as Buyanja Myroots has done. He commended the association for supplementing government efforts by supporting schools, health facilities, and farmers. He also urged school heads to tighten security to safeguard school property.
A number of head teachers, including Darius Twebaze from Kasheshe Primary School, Andrew Musimenta from Rwamuhima Primary School, and Kallen Keneza from Katungu Primary School, expressed gratitude to Buyanja Myroots for the donation. They said the computers would help learners gain computer literacy and reduce school expenses on printing examinations.
