Buyanja District Councillor Urges Youth to Embrace Agriculture Over Political Exploitation

Rukungiri: The district councillor representing Buyanja Sub-county in Rukungiri District, Albert Mugisha Rwamugaata, has called on the youth to engage in agriculture and avoid being exploited by politicians.

In an interview with our news reporter on 28, Rwamugaata expressed concern that some politicians take advantage of idle and unemployed youth, using them to carry posters and attack others on social media, instead of encouraging them to engage in income-generating activities like coffee farming.

He urged the youth to utilize their time wisely, noting that time is a valuable resource that, if wasted, often leads to regret.

Meanwhile, Johnson Tukamushaba, a youth and resident of Nyakinengo Parish in Nyakagyeme Sub-county, Rukungiri District, shared his success story in agriculture. A passion fruit farmer and beekeeper, Tukamushaba revealed that he was inspired to take up farming after growing up in an agricultural family. Farming was their main source of income and helped pay for school fees.

Tukamushaba disclosed that he currently earns UGX 700,000 per week from his passion fruit harvests and is optimistic about increasing this to UGX 1.2 million weekly by the end of the year after expanding his plantation. He advised fellow youth to embrace agriculture, particularly vegetables like tomatoes and green peppers, which are in high demand in hotels and households. He believes this will secure a brighter future for them.
