Businessman Charleson Batsigira roots support for Museveni and all NRM flag bearers.

Rukungiri: Businessman Charleson Kwikiriza Batsigira has rallied the people of Rukungiri district and Uganda at large to vote for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential candidate Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and all the party flag bearers in the upcoming January 15, 2026 general elections.

Kwikiriza was speaking to our reporter in an a phone interview on December 16, 2025.

He said Museveni who has led Uganda for close to 4 decades has got the potential and ability to drive Uganda forward in the next five years given his experience and global exposure.

“Our president has done a lot for this country. His stay in power has given him experience in leadership and global recognition for his role in fighting for sustainable peace and development”. Said Kwikiriza.

When asked about concerns over his (Museveni) age, Batsigira explained that Uganda needs a mature president further revealing that age is synonymous with wisdom.

“While we were growing up, our parents used to tell us how wiser we would be when we grow up. I’m now more wise than I was 20 years ago. And so is the president. Age is synonymous with wisdom”.

He asked the electorate to consider all the good things Museveni has done for the country in the last 40 years including development in the infrastructure sector and political stability.

Kwikiriza further called on the voters to elect only the NRM flag bearers who can find it easy to lobby for them through the party caucus, parliament and the respective councils.

He said, services will reach communities faster when the president is elected together with Members of Parliament (MPs) and councilors of his party.

“NRM is the family and President Museveni is the father. All the flag bearers are his children who will easily access him. For the father to feel safe, he must have his children around him. So let’s vote all our flag bearers to make our family feel safe.” Said Batsigira.

It should be remembered that NRM is fielding candidates in all three counties making Rukungiri and for District woman representative.

Security Minister Jim Muhwezi is holding the NRM flag for Rujumbura county, Mathias Mwesigwa Rwabugumi for Rubabo county and (Rtd) Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde for Rukungiri Municipality.

The former Rubabo county Member of Parliament Mary Paula Kebirungi Turyahikayo is now the one holding the NRM flag for the district woman representative.

As the country races to 2026 general elections, Kwikiriza who had thrown his hat into the ring to challenge minister Muhwezi for Rujumbura county but later withdrew is optimistic that the NRM party will come out with a landslide victory.
