Bruce Nkwasibwe Blames Irregularities, Vows Independent Bid for Bugangari Lc5 Seat

Rukungiri: Lawyer Bruce Nkwasibwe has announced plans to contest again for the LC5 District Councilor seat for Bugangari Sub-county as an independent candidate in next year’s general elections. This comes after he narrowly lost in the recently concluded NRM party primaries by a margin of just 212 votes, a result he attributes to bribery and irregularities.

In an interview with our reporter yesterday, Nkwasibwe claimed the election was marred by voter bribery and last-minute interference with his polling agents. He also expressed concerns over how the electoral process was conducted, accusing the registrars of failing to follow proper procedures.

Nkwasibwe came third in the NRM primaries. William Ngabirano was declared the party flag bearer by Rukungiri District NRM Registrar Elias Katureebe after securing 1,200 votes (30%). He was followed by Gard Muhoozi with 998 votes (25%), Nkwasibwe with 988 votes (24.7%), and Herbert Njunwooha who polled 813 votes (22.7%). A total of 3,999 votes were cast.

Nkwasibwe criticized the handling of the voter register, claiming that instead of using the official yellow book, anyone present at the polling station was allowed to vote. He believes this contributed to the unfairness of the election.

“I am committed to seeking justice and fairness. I will appear on the ballot next year as an independent candidate to represent the people of Bugangari in the Rukungiri District Council,” Nkwasibwe stated.

He thanked his supporters for standing by him and urged them to continue mobilizing, assuring them that he is making a strong comeback.
