Body of Unidentified Woman Found Dumped in River Ntungwa, Police Suspect Murder
Kanungu: Police in Kanungu District are investigating the suspected murder of an unidentified woman whose body was discovered in River Ntungwa, tied with ropes and packed in a sack.
According to Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, the incident occurred on Saturday, 2nd August 2025, at around 3:00 PM.
Maate said the body was discovered by young boys who were fishing in the river when they noticed a green sack stuck in the water. Upon inspection, they realized it contained a lifeless body.

The boys immediately alerted the area chairperson of Kanabizo Cell, Ntungwa Parish, Nyamirama Sub-county, who dispatched his defence secretary, David Kasigeire, to report the incident to the police.
Police officers visited the scene, documented evidence, and retrieved the body, which was taken to Kanungu Health Centre IV mortuary for a postmortem. ASP Maate noted that the body was still fresh, suggesting the woman may have been killed earlier that morning and later dumped in the river.
Authorities are urging anyone with a missing female relative to visit the health center mortuary to help identify the deceased and ensure a decent burial.
Investigations are ongoing to establish the identity of the victim, the motive behind the killing, and those responsible.
