Boda Boda Rider Killed in Suspected Overspeeding Crash in Rukungiri
Rukungiri: A tragic road accident has claimed the life of a 26-year-old boda boda rider in Rukungiri District, after he reportedly knocked down a pedestrian along the Rukungiri–Kihihi road.
The deceased has been identified as Rogers Abisinguza, a resident of Rumira Cell in Bugangari Parish, Bugangari Sub-county. The accident occurred on Easter day, April 5, 2026, at around 4:00 PM in Kakirago II Cell, also within Bugangari Sub-county.
According to preliminary police reports, Abisinguza was riding motorcycle registration number UFS 906W from Rukungiri town towards Kihihi when he allegedly lost control due to suspected overspeeding. He then knocked a pedestrian, identified as John Bosco Byaruhanga, 28, a resident of Kakirago II Cell.
Abisinguza died instantly at the scene, while Byaruhanga sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby health facility for medical attention, where he remains admitted.
Police officers visited and documented the scene before clearing it. The body of the deceased was taken to Bugangari Health Centre IV mortuary pending a postmortem examination, while the motorcycle involved in the accident was towed to the police yard for inspection.
The Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed the incident and said investigations into the exact cause of the accident are ongoing.
Authorities have since urged all road users, especially motorcyclists, to observe traffic regulations and avoid overspeeding to prevent such fatal incidents.
