Bishop Comboni Kambuga Crowned USSSA U-20 Kigezi Champions

Rukungiri: Bishop Comboni College Kambuga in Kanungu District has been crowned champions of the USSSA Under-20 Kigezi Region tournament after defeating Bishop Ruhindi Senior Secondary School from Rukungiri District.

The finals were played on April 12, at Rukungiri Municipal Stadium, where Bishop Comboni secured a 2-0 victory over Bishop Ruhindi at full time.

The USSSA tournament for the Kigezi sub-region began on Thursday, April 9, and concluded today, April 12. It was hosted by Makobore High School in Rukungiri District, with 27 schools from six districts participating.

In the first semi-final, Bishop Comboni College Kambuga defeated Makobore High School 7-6 in a penalty shootout after a goalless draw in normal time. In the second semi-final, Bishop Ruhindi Senior Secondary School beat Rukungiri High School 2-0.

Three schools, Bishop Comboni College Kambuga, Bishop Ruhindi Senior Secondary School, and Makobore High School, will represent the Kigezi sub-region at the national USSSA competitions to be held in Lira District.

The Kigezi Region USSSA Chairperson, Onesimus Rukundo, who is also the headteacher of Kihanga Secondary School in Rukiga district, thanked all teams for their discipline and urged the qualifiers to cooperate and represent the region well at the national level.

The chief guest, Rukungiri Deputy Resident District Commissioner Wilberforce Ahimbisibwe Ongom, advised participants to remain focused on both academics and sports.

The winning team was awarded a trophy and gold medals, while the runners-up received silver medals. All participating players and team officials were also given certificates of recognition.
