Bishop Asiimwe Urges Ugandans to Choose Leaders Wisely Ahead of Elections
Rukungiri: As Uganda prepares for 2026 elections, The Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese Rt. Rev. Onesmus Asiimwe has called on Ugandans to make informed decisions when electing their leaders.
Speaking during a Christmas press briefing held at the diocesan headquarters in Rukungiri Municipality on December 23, Bishop Asiimwe advised citizens to critically assess aspiring leaders and their promises.
He cautioned that some candidates might make unrealistic pledges, even promising “bridges where there are no rivers”. Bishop Asiimwe emphasized the importance of electing leaders who genuinely represent the people’s interests and ideas, warning that poor leadership can have lasting negative impacts on communities.
The Bishop also urged church leaders to maintain neutrality by refraining from hosting political campaigns in churches and avoiding political affiliations. He stressed that the church should remain a place of unity and spiritual guidance for all, regardless of political differences.
