Aspiring MP Gen. Henry Tumukunde Donates Relief Aid to Karangaro Ward Residents
Rukungiri: A section of residents from Nyamabale, Kafunda, and Kabwire cells in Karangaro Ward, Western Division, Rukungiri Municipality, have received relief aid from an aspiring Member of Parliament for Rukungiri Municipality Gen. Henry Tumukunde.
The relief follows a devastating hailstorm on March 2, 2025, which affected over 1,000 households, destroying crops such as bananas, cassava, groundnuts, and beans. The damage has left many residents on the brink of famine, raising concerns about potential food shortages in the area.
Kafunda Cell LC1 Chairperson, Bernard Turyagyenda, described the impact of the hailstorm as severe, leaving over 120 households in distress since farming is their primary source of livelihood. While expressing gratitude for the support, he emphasized the need for additional assistance to help the affected families recover.
Henry Twehagane, speaking on behalf of Gen. Tumukunde, extended condolences to the affected residents and encouraged them to replant their crops to mitigate future food shortages. He noted that upon hearing of the calamity, Gen. Tumukunde felt compelled to assist, leading to the donation of maize flour to the affected households.
