Andrew Kikira Ankunda Declares Bid for Rukungiri Municipality MP Seat.

Rukungiri: Andrew Kikira Ankunda has officially announced his intention to contest for the position of Member of Parliament for Rukungiri Municipality in the 2026–2031 term.  

Kikira, a businessman in Kampala and Rukungiri, made the declaration over the weekend during a press conference at his home in Bunura Cell, Rwakabengo Ward, Southern Division, Rukungiri Municipality.  

While addressing journalists, Kikira unveiled his manifesto, outlining his plans to improve the quality of life for residents. He promised to prioritize healthcare by establishing a regional referral hospital and improving health center services. He also pledged to enhance education by setting up a university within the municipality to create local opportunities for higher education and retain talent.  

Kikira emphasized the need to improve road infrastructure to boost business and emergency response. He also promised to expand electricity access through the national grid and solar energy solutions to support economic development.  

On youth empowerment, he committed to tackling unemployment through industrial hubs, training programs, and sports development initiatives. He also pledged to improve water and sanitation services by ensuring access to clean, piped water to reduce waterborne diseases.  

To support agriculture, Kikira plans to help local farmers through cooperatives and market development to reduce post-harvest losses. He also vowed to empower women and marginalized groups by establishing funding and training programs.  

For the business community, he promised financial support, business mentorship, and a reduction in bureaucratic challenges to improve the local business climate. He also assured residents of transparent governance through town hall meetings and digital platforms to enhance citizen participation.  

Kikira urged the people of Rukungiri Municipality to support him in the upcoming elections, saying his leadership would bring development and prosperity to the area.
