9 PFF Members Cross to NRM During Minister Jim Muhwezi’s Campaign in Bugangari
Rukungiri: Nine members of the opposition People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) party have crossed over to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) during a campaign rally addressed by the Minister for Security, Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Jim Muhwezi Katugugu, in Katerampungu Parish, Bugangari Sub-county, Rukungiri District.
The group was led by Gereva Twesigomwe, the LC1 Chairperson of Rugarama Cell, and included Agaptus Banyijusya, Deme Tusingwire, Herbert Niwamanya, Innocent Nagamba, Evalysto Turyamushange, Immaculate Tumuhimbise, Immaculate Akampurira, and Julius Friday.
The converts announced their decision as Minister Muhwezi, who is also the Member of Parliament for Rujumbura County, addressed residents on the NRM manifesto and urged voters to support NRM flag bearers for continued service delivery.
Minister Muhwezi’s campaign on November 11, covered the cells of Katerampungu, Rugarama, and Nyanganjara A, where he addressed residents at Omukitete Trading Centre, before proceeding to Omurwere, Kitunguru II, and Nyanganjara B, where he spoke to crowds at Bubare Trading Centre.
The new NRM members said they joined the ruling party after realizing that it offers practical solutions to their longstanding challenges, particularly poor road conditions, lack of clean water, and inadequate access to electricity.
Immaculate Tumuhimbise narrated how she once lost an unborn baby due to poor roads while traveling to a health facility for a medical checkup. Deme Tusingwire commended Minister Muhwezi’s wife, Mrs. Susan Muhwezi, for donating hoes to widows in their community, saying it inspired them to join NRM.
Rugarama LC1 Chairperson Gereva Twesigomwe said he was optimistic that the road from Rugarama to Omukitete, as well as access to electricity and water, will soon be improved.
