54-Year-Old Kyaguma Spring in Kebisoni Left to Waste, Residents Demand Action

Rukungiri: Residents of Kebisoni Town Council have raised concerns over the poor state of Kyaguma Spring, a vital water source that has been neglected since 1971.

The spring, which supplies water to several communities within Kebisoni Town Council, has been heavily affected by floodwaters over the years and is now in a deteriorated condition due to age and lack of maintenance.

According to residents of Kakinga Cell in Kakinga Ward, including Bruce Akampurira, Paul Byaruhanga, and Katashaya Beyongyera the LC1 Defense,  Kyaguma Spring serves four cells, two primary schools, Kiborogota Primary School and Kebisoni Junior Primary School, and the Kebisoni Town Council offices.

The spring acts as a backup water source during times of water shortages, especially for households without piped water. However, the spring has become filled with mud and stagnant water, raising fears of a potential disease outbreak. Residents blame years of neglect and damage caused by flooding for its current state.

The NRM flag bearer and mayoral candidate for Kebisoni Town Council, Leonard Muhunguzi, acknowledged the issue and attributed some of the damage to runoff water from commercial buildings along Kakinga Church of Uganda Road. He encouraged community involvement in cleaning the spring and pledged to mobilize funds for its renovation if elected.
