Rukungiri: Three individuals are behind bars after being arrested for allegedly assaulting Eliab Keinamura for not supporting Lt. Gen. Henry Tumukunde, who is eyeing the Rukungiri Municipality parliamentary seat.
The suspects Aaron Nuwamanya, Emmanuel Nuwamanya, and another identified only as Santos are all residents of Rukungiri Municipality.
According to police, the trio was arrested on June 3, following a violent incident that took place on June 2. It is alleged that the group clashed with Keinamura after trying to attach Lt. Gen. Tumukunde’s campaign posters to his shop in Kigaaga.
Keinamura, a resident of Rwoobo Cell, Kakonkoma Kigaaga Ward, Southern Division in Rukungiri Municipality, says the suspects beat him into a coma during the altercation. He claims they loaded him into their vehicle, registration number UAK 105A, and drove him to Kihindi, where Tumukunde owns an office.
Keinamura further alleges that upon arrival, he was beaten again before being taken to Rukungiri Central Police Station. There, the suspects reportedly accused him of assaulting them.

Rukungiri District Police Commander (DPC), SSP Apollo Kyangungu, confirmed the arrests. He stated that the suspects are facing assault charges and will appear in court once investigations are complete. He also noted that police have impounded the vehicle used in the incident, which is suspected to have been used to kidnap people.
