2,535 Students Graduate at MIU’s 8th Graduation Ceremony

Mbarara: A total of 2,535 students have graduated from Metropolitan International University (MIU) during its 8th graduation ceremony, held on Friday, February 27, at the university’s Mbarara Campus in Biharwe Town, Mbarara City.

According to graduation statistics, the graduates included 84 Master’s degree holders, 66 Postgraduate Diploma recipients, 969 Undergraduate degree graduates, 620 Diploma holders, and 796 National Certificate awardees.

Of the total graduates, 1,308 were male while 1,227 were female.

The conferment of degrees and the awarding of diplomas and certificates were presided over by the University Chancellor, Hon. Philemon Mateke, the former Minister of State for Regional Affairs.

MIU currently operates three campuses, with the main campus in Kisoro and other branches in Mbarara and Kampala.

While addressing the congregation, Vice Chancellor Dr. Julius Arinaitwe encouraged parents and guardians to continue supporting their children and relatives in education, describing education as the backbone of community development.

The Chairperson of the Board of Directors, Dr. Gracious Ariyo, applauded the NRM government for promoting education through Universal Primary Education (UPE) and Universal Secondary Education (USE) programs, which have enabled children from poor families to access education. He invited the public to enroll at MIU, which offers a wide range of courses from certificate level to PhD programs, and pledged to introduce more courses to meet the needs of learners.

Dr. Ariyo also thanked God for enabling the university to receive its charter, noting that MIU became the first private university in Uganda to receive a charter at such a young age. He explained that the charter places the university on the same footing as public universities.

The Chief Guest, the State Minister for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs, Hon. Kabuye Kyofatogabye, advised graduates to focus first on building their economic and financial capacity instead of rushing into marriage. He also appreciated parents for their dedication and sacrifices in educating their children.

The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including vice chancellors from other universities, politicians, clergy, and other university well-wishers.
