16 Couples Exchange Vows in First-Ever Mass Wedding at St. Peter’s Buyanja

Rukungiri: Sixteen couples have tied the knot in a colorful mass wedding ceremony held at St. Peter’s Catholic Parish in Buyanja, Rukungiri District.

The ceremony comes as the Catholic Church concludes its Holy Year, which was declared by the late Pope Francis on 24th December 2025. According to the program, Kabale Diocese will officially close the Holy Year tomorrow, Sunday, during a special Mass to be led by the Bishop of Kabale Diocese, Rt. Rev. Among the couples that exchanged vows on November 29, were Pataleo Kashillingi and Evanglista Busingye; James Arinaitwe and Prossy Tumubwaine; Gerald Nabimanya and Judith Arinaitwe; Darias Tumukunde and Costance Kemirembe; Alex Mastiko and Christine Kemirembe; Alexander Mununura and Plaxender Turinawe; Moses Mugasha and Hildah Ayebaze, and Alex Nahurira with Adreen Atukunda.

Others included Dononzio Bajurizi and Jenerasi Kyasiimire; John Amon Ampaire and Patience Ainembabazi; Elias Nabasa and Magret Keinembabazi; Francis Byamugisha and Maria Generoza Korugyendo; Josephat Byamugisha and Jovita Nuwabaine; Venansio Kiiza and Maria Scovia Atuhaire; Barnabas Nimusiima and Dornita Akatuhwera; and Joab Twesigye with Florah Nowobushoborozi.

While addressing the newlyweds during the Mass, held as the parish celebrated two years since it was elevated to parish status, Rev. Fr. Benjamin Tukamushaba encouraged the couples to be prayerful, hardworking, approachable, cooperative, and to always embrace forgiveness.

He urged them to make prayer a central pillar in their families by presenting their successes and challenges to God as they would share with a close friend. He further reminded the grooms to take up their responsibility as spiritual heads of their homes.

He encouraged the newlyweds to be exemplary in their communities and appealed to other couples who have not yet wedded to do so in order to live a dignified and fulfilling life.
