10 Arrested in Night Security Operation in Kabale Municipality

Kabale: Ten people have been arrested during an intelligence-led night operation conducted by officers from Kabale Central Police Station. The operation, aimed at enhancing security within Kabale Municipality, was led by the Officer in Charge of Operations Inspector of Police Davis Twesigye.

According to Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, the individuals were arrested from various locations across the municipality during the early hours of the night on July 30.

He noted that the suspects are believed to be wrong elements who posed a potential threat to the safety of residents. Some were found in possession of and smoking opium, while others failed to give a proper account of their nighttime movements.

The suspects have been identified as Dickens Agumenitwe, Nicholas Shabahurira, Fahadi Magoba, Patrick Kashenya, Micah Tuyishabe, Amon Turinawe, Ronald Tumukunde, Wilber Arinitwe, Gidion Ampeire, and Brandin Mutoniwase.

ASP Maate said the operation is part of ongoing efforts to reduce incidents such as waylaying travelers, snatching of bags, burglary, and theft, which have become a concern in the municipality. He added that such operations will continue to ensure public safety and security.

He urged the public to minimize unnecessary movement during night hours, and advised those who must travel at night to do so early, use well-lit streets, avoid shortcuts and isolated areas, and remain vigilant by reporting suspicious individuals who may pose a threat to their communities.

Upon conclusion of investigations, the suspects will be arraigned before court to face charges of being in possession of opium and causing public nuisance.

ASP Maate reiterated the police’s commitment to protecting the public and called for continued cooperation from residents in the fight against crime.
