Sub-County Performance: Only 297 Pupils Fail 2025 PLE Exams in Rukungiri District

Rukungiri: Only 297 pupils failed the 2025 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) in Rukungiri District out of a total of 6,620 candidates.

According to statistics from the Education Department of Rukungiri District Local Government, 6,620 pupils registered for the 2025 PLE examinations. Of these, 3,020 were boys while 3,600 were girls.

The Principal Inspector of Schools, Peace Atamba, told our reporter that the district registered strong performance. A total of 659 pupils passed in Division One, 3,353 in Division Two, 1,532 in Division Three, and 693 in Division Four. Meanwhile, 297 pupils failed the examinations, while 86 candidates missed the exams.

At sub-county level, Buyanja Sub-county and Buyanja Town Council registered 166 pupils in Division One, 537 in Division Two, 176 in Division Three, and 47 in Division Four. Fourteen pupils failed, while 11 missed the exams.

Kebisoni Sub-county and Kebisoni Town Council recorded 82 pupils in Division One, 414 in Division Two, 162 in Division Three, and 86 in Division Four. Fifty-two pupils failed, while 12 missed the exams.

Ruhinda Sub-county had 33 pupils in Division One, 303 in Division Two, 140 in Division Three, and 56 in Division Four. Twelve pupils failed, while seven missed the exams.

Bwambara Sub-county and Bikurungu Town Council registered 20 pupils in Division One, 283 in Division Two, 189 in Division Three, and 67 in Division Four. Twenty-six pupils failed, while eight missed the exams.

Nyarushanje Sub-county recorded 173 pupils in Division One, 655 in Division Two, 284 in Division Three, and 129 in Division Four. Sixty-eight pupils failed, while 12 missed the exams.

Bugangari Sub-county registered 20 pupils in Division One, 287 in Division Two, 119 in Division Three, and 54 in Division Four. Nine pupils failed, while three missed the exams.

Nyakishenyi Sub-county had 16 pupils in Division One, 268 in Division Two, 200 in Division Three, and 96 in Division Four. Fifty-one pupils failed, while 14 missed the exams.

Nyakagyeme Sub-county and Rwerere Town Council registered 106 pupils in Division One, 321 in Division Two, 191 in Division Three, and 104 in Division Four. Forty-six pupils failed, while 14 missed the exams.

Buhunga Sub-county registered 43 pupils in Division One, 285 in Division Two, 107 in Division Three, and 57 in Division Four. Nineteen pupils failed, while five missed the exams.

The LC5 Chairperson of Rukungiri District, Geoffrey Kyomukama, together with the Assistant Resident District Commissioner, Karen Kagisha, expressed gratitude for the good performance of learners despite challenges faced last year, including a prolonged teachers’ strike.

They encouraged parents to enroll learners in schools that match their financial capacity and advised those unable to afford school fees to consider vocational skills training such as welding, salon work, carpentry, and other practical skills.
