Protestants, Catholics foster ties in ecumenical service at Kanombe Catholic Church.
Rukungiri: It was a moment of joy on Sunday September 14, 2025 at St. John’s Kanombe Catholic Centre under Katojo Parish as Protestants from Yakobo Orikwera Buhandagazi Church of Uganda parish in Nyabiteete Archdeaconry joined Catholics at the church in an ecumenical service held to strengthen ties.
During this historic service, Christians from both churches demonstrated their commitment to unity, mutual understanding, and cooperation, building stronger relationships and fostering a sense of community.
While preaching during the service, the catechist of Kanombe Catholic Centre, Keresensio Birakwate, called on the faithfuls to shun living a sinful life and return to a right relationship with God by making conscious decisions to change their ways.
The parish priest of Yakobo Orikwera Buhandagazi Church of Uganda, Rev. Syson Gumisiriza on his part emphasized love for one another regardless of religion.
He encouraged the Christians to unite in prayer, saying that when people come closer to God, they receive deliverance and healing.
Meanwhile the head of laity at Yakobo Orikwera Buhandagazi Church of Uganda, Benon Tugume, asked Christians never to break the bond between the two churches.
He stressed that the devil should never be given a chance to divide believers, since they already share much in life, such as workplaces and schools.
