Police steps up investigations into fire outbreak at Kabale Commercial building.

Kabale: Police in Kabale have intensified investigations to establish the cause of the fire that gutted a commercial building in Kabale town on Saturday February 14, 2026.

In a statement released on Sunday February 15, 2026, Kigezi region police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate revealed that the ruinous fire caught a wholesale building at Kicollege Business Center in Central Division of Kabale Municipality, reducing into ashes property worth Shs 200 million.

The said building caught fire at around 01:17 p.m leaving traders operating there with merchandise including maize flour, soap, books and sugar, counting losses.

Maate said police received a call from a person only identified as Kevin, a worker at Kigezi Diocesan bookshop who reported that a building belonging to Charles Rwanika had caught fire.

Upon receiving information, officers from police brigade and fire rescue service unit at Kabale Central Police station immediately rushed to the scene and found the building burning.

Maate said Police with the help of locals managed to put off fire, preventing it from spreading to other buildings and saved part of the merchandise.

Despite having recorded no life lost, ASP Maate said, the cause of the fire was not readily known, prompting police to launch further investigations into the incident.
