Police Probe Suspected Arson at Rukungiri Inn Hotel.

Rukungiri: Police in Rukungiri District have launched investigations into a suspected case of arson after part of Rukungiri Inn Hotel’s bar section was set ablaze.

‎‎According to police reports, the incident occurred on Sunday September 14, 2025, at around 6:00 a.m. when the hotel’s security guard, Job Mwesigye, noticed smoke coming from the rear side of the bar, which is a grass-thatched shelter.‎‎

He immediately alerted the receptionist, Unity Owomugisha, who in turn notified the hotel manager, Patience Kobusingye.

The matter was then reported to Rukungiri Police Station.‎‎

Police officers, including the Fire and Rescue Brigade and a K9 unit, responded promptly and managed to extinguish the fire before it spread further.‎‎

However, the K9 search did not produce results as the crime scene had already been tampered with.‎‎

Preliminary reports suggest that the unidentified suspect could have accessed the hotel premises from the neighboring government forest reserve, located just behind the Rukungiri Police Barracks.

Foot marks leading from the scene into the forest were reportedly observed.

Rukungiri Inn Hotel is owned by Minister of security Major general (Rtd) Jim Muhwezi Katugugu.
